History
In 1956, the department of Vietnamese Language belonging to University of Hanoi was established in charge of training Vietamese language and culture for foreign students who studied in Vietnam according to the cooperation agreements with Vietnam government and other countries.
On Dec 18th 1968, Faculty of Vietnamese Language – University of Hanoi was established on the basis of department of Vietnamese Language, which asserts the role and the importance of training Vietnamese language and culture for foreigners in Vietnamese education system.
In 1995, the faculty was named as Faculty of Language and Vietnamese Culture for Foreigners to meet the demand of the new development.
On March 02nd 1999, Ministry of Education and Training signed the decree no 826/QD BGD&DT-DH, allowed the faculty to have the bachelor program of Vietnamese language and culture for foreign students.
Nowadays, in the process of the strongly international integration, Vietnam became a member of ASEAN and WTO, successfully organized Asea – Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)… Cultural exchanges, foreign investment, international trading continuously increase, thousands of foreign commercial, technological companies and groups have invested in Vietnam. Therefore, the number of students who are interested in studying and researching on Vietnamese Studies also increases a lot. It was necessary and urgent to improve and develop Vietnamese Studies, as a result, on Feb 28th 2008, Vietnam National University, Hanoi signed to apply two programs of Vietnamese Studies for Vietnamese students and foreign students. On April 24th 2008. Vietnam National University, Hanoi signed the decree to rename Faculty of Language and Vietnamese Culture for Foreigners as Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Language.
